![]() He then enters the "fourth state", namely turiya or samadhi, beyond the usual states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, "that special thoughtless sleep, which consists of consciousness." The 15th century Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā goes further, stating (4.49) that "One should practice Khecarī Mudrā until one is asleep in yoga. ![]() The Amanaska (2.64) asserts that "Just as someone who has suddenly arisen from sleep becomes aware of sense objects, so the yogin wakes up from that at the end of his yogic sleep." īy the 14th century, the Yogatārāvalī (24–26) gives a more detailed description, stating that yoganidra "removes all thought of the world of multiplicity" in the advanced yogi who has completely uprooted his "network of Karma". In the 11th or 12th century, yoganidra is first used in Hatha yoga and Raja yoga texts as a synonym for samadhi, a deep state of meditative consciousness where the yogi no longer thinks, moves, or breathes. In the Shaiva text Ciñcinīmatasārasamuccaya (7.164), yoganidra is called "peace beyond words" in the Mahāmāyātantra (2.19ab) it is named as a state in which perfected Buddhas may access secret knowledge. Yoganidra is first linked to meditation in Shaiva and Buddhist tantras. These early mentions do not define any yoga technique or practice, but describe the god Vishnu's transcendental sleep in between the Yugas, the cycles of the universe, and the manifestation of the goddess as sleep itself. The god Brahma asks Yoganidrā to wake up Vishnu to go and fight the Asuras or demigods named Madhu and Kaitabha. The Devīmāhātmya, written around the 6th century CE, mentions a goddess whose name is Yoganidrā. becomes the bed of the lotus-naveled Vishnu when at the termination of every Yuga that deity of immeasurable power enjoys yoga-nidra, the deep sleep under the spell of spiritual meditation. ![]() The Hindu epic Mahabharata, completed by the 3rd century CE, mentions a state called "yoganidra", and associates it with Lord Vishnu: Historical usage Ancient times Vishnu asleep on the eternal waters, 19th century There is limited scientific evidence that the technique helps relieve stress. It is applied by the US Army to assist soldiers to recover from post-traumatic stress disorder. The modern form of the technique, pioneered by Dennis Boyes in 1973, made widely known by Satyananda Saraswati in 1976, and then by Swami Rama, Richard Miller, and others has spread worldwide. That derives from 19th and 20th century Western "proprioceptive relaxation" as described by practitioners such as Annie Payson Call and Edmund Jacobson. These texts however offer no precedent for the modern technique of guided meditation. Yoga nidra is linked to meditation in Shaiva and Buddhist tantras, while some medieval hatha yoga texts use "yoganidra" as a synonym for the deep meditative state of samadhi. Yoga nidra ( Sanskrit: योग निद्रा, yoga nidrā) or yogic sleep in modern usage is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, typically induced by a guided meditation.Ī state called yoga nidra is mentioned in the Upanishads and the Mahabharata, while a goddess named Yoganidrā appears in the Devīmāhātmya. Whichever option you choose, you will probably want to also use the db.serviceNameSuffix=.your_db_domain parameter to enable the pluggable mapping functionality. ![]() Alternatively you can use =true in the properties file, which will mean all PDBs will have to use the same version of ORDS. The recommended way is to set =false in the properties file, which will allow each PDB to run a different version of ORDS. From version 18.1 onward there are two ways of installing ORDS into the CDB. In this case the db.servicename parameter will be set to the CDB service name in the properties file. This will drastically reduce the number of database connections used compared to having a separate connection pool per PDB. If you are using many PDBs per CDB, you may prefer to install ORDS into the CDB to allow all PDBs to share the same connection pool. This is the method I typically use as there is no additional ORDS dependency on the CDB. The db.servicename parameter will be set to the PDB service name in the properties file. ![]() When using the multitenant architecture there are several options for how to install ORDS.įor Lone-PDB installations (a CDB with one PDB), or for CDBs with small numbers of PDBs, ORDS can be installed directly into the PDB. From ORDS 3.0 onward, APEX is not actually necessary, but there is some useful stuff in there, so I would always recommend it.

![]() That's where I discovered that my new hero amp wasn't quite perfect. I took the AHB2 along with me for a weekend at our country place, in Connecticut, to see if it would be as successful with my more modest system there. I definitely did not look forward to giving it back to JA for testing. This compact, lightweight, cool-running, class-AB power amp is a real breakthrough in every way. Yes, I could hear the differences between the different amplifiers, and that's the point. It was a great pleasure, as old friends, some already mentioned, smiled anew. The bass had all requisite extension and detail (see above), but seemed to be more naturally balanced with the rest of the audio band.Īs time passed and I listened more, I grew to love the AHB2's sound, and undertook the rewarding effort of listening through it to as many different recordings as I could. Now the treble wasn't so much un-bright as smoother and unaccented. At first, I thought the AHB2 sounded less bright, and less full in the bass, than the other amps I had on hand, but after only a few days of listening I began to accept that it sounded more "right" than any of them. Lots of real-world factors might account for this, including interaction of an amplifier's output stage with the complex input impedance of a loudspeaker. Careful listeners often hear what sounds like an uneven or tilted frequency balance, even when measurements taken under lab conditions show it to be flat. Tonal balance is a curious audio parameter. I also, very briefly, ran the AHB2 as a bridged monoblock into a single loudspeaker it sounded the same, but I thought it would be pointless to try to get it to clip if I wanted to avoid annoying my neighbors. Both recordings are remarkably clean and spacious, with powerful bass the AHB2 rose to the occasion, driving the two 800 Diamonds (sans subwoofer) to volumes louder than I ever hope to hear from them again (though it's nice to know I can). For this I used "Jazz Variants," from the O-Zone Percussion Group's La Bamba (CD, Klavier KD 77017), and the glorious conclusion of Saint-Saâns's Symphony 3, with organist Olivier Latry, Christoph Eschenbach, and the Philadelphia Orchestra (SACD/CD, Ondine ODE-1094-5). In practice, I had to push the AHB2 to unreasonable and personally uncomfortable volume levels to get the least blink from one of its Clip LEDs. That seemed to present no problem for the AHB2, which, Benchmark claims, can pump out nearly 200Wpc into 4 ohms or 240Wpc into 3 ohms. Given that there are current-hungry combinations of 4 ohms and ≥2° electrical phase angle at 62Hz and 5.3 ohms and ≣9° phase angle at 8.6kHz, I believe this speaker should be rated as a 4 ohm load rather than the specified 8 ohms." "There are minima of 3.15 ohms at 91Hz, 3.1 ohms at 620Hz, and 3.67 ohms at 21kHz. At an SPL of 90dB, the B&Ws are of neither particularly high nor low efficiency, but JA has told us what makes them difficult to drive: It was clear that this 100Wpc (into 8 ohms) stereo amp had all the power needed to drive with aplomb my Bowers & Wilkins 800 Diamond speakers to any reasonable level. In addition to quantity of soundstage detail, the AHB2 was also "large" in power output. ![]() Or, better, I could just surrender to the warmly touching denouement. I could hear into the ensemble and aurally navigate the soundstage. The resulting impression was one of transparency, neutrality, and liveliness. As the horns enter, the fading strings diminish but remain audible as they continue to provide the tonal foundation. Classical music, of course, benefited from this newfound richness of information, as was clearly demonstrated by the last minute or so of Adám Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra's recording of the Adagio of Bruckner's Symphony 7 (SACD/CD, Channel Classics CCS SA 33714). Similarly, the AHB2 uncovered so many of the little niceties peppering "Ride Across the River," from Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms: 20th Anniversary Edition (SACD/CD, Vertigo 9871498), that it was like savoring the spicy bits in a Xi'an broth for the first time. Yes, this was now audible through my other amps as well, when I returned to thembut until the AHB2, I hadn't heard itor, at least, hadn't noticed it. One example was Hans Theessink's voice at the end of the phrase "as I lay sleeping," in "Late Last Night," from his album Call Me (CD, Blue Groove BG-4020): I could now distinctly hear how his gravelly tone faded off well before the fade of its ambient resonance. These surprising and delicious details were evident from the bass up through the midrange and extreme treble, which nonetheless remained silky and diaphanous. ![]()
